BackJust recently we have been asked quite lot “What is Soft Signage”
The term soft signage is applied to any display signage printed onto specialist fabrics rather than traditional sign vinyl, display boards, banner or similar. Its been around forever, think about flags or banners and traditionally screen printed, but the development of digital large format print machines since early nineties has meant that soft signage has grown dramatically in the last few years. You only need to look on car sales forecourts at the variety of flags or the backlit fabric display walls in large retailers to see the commonality.
The global market for digitally printed textiles is currently worth in excess of $1.5 billion dollars. This growth in demand is not suprising; the cost of soft signage has come down fairly dramatically over the last couple of years and the print finish offers a real aesthetic difference, offering opportunites in product innovation and design.
There are lots of benefits to using soft signage including easier storage and transportation – the graphics fold down into small piles, we recently did a job with a 12 metre wide x 4 metre high back backwall and the graphics folded down to fit into a small box which we transported in a car! Soft signage is also less likely to be damaged in transport, takes up less space, is PVC free and therefore better for the environment.
There are however a few downsides to soft signage including shrinkage on some materials, particularly if your fitting an exhibition display wall in the cold (its best to leave them in a warm environment prior to fitting) and image quality, in our opinion you still get a better finish from a high quality display board or vinyl.
